Take the Lead
We all know how important it is to walk our dogs everyday for both physical fitness and mental stimulation. But do you dread coming home for work to walk the dog because you know about halfway through that walk your arm will feel like it has been pulled off your shoulder? Does your dog try to chase every cat or bird it sees or bark at other dogs?
Overview : Proper position, loose leash walking, automatic sit when you stop, various walking patterns, lots of distractions.

TAKE THE LEAD EDUCATION
-
We will cover teaching the position for "heel."
-
This will teach your dog the what the correct position is to be in during your walk.
-
-
We will teach a "let's go" command to tell your dog to stay in the heel position while walking.
-
We will also build up their focus on you so that they are looking up at you while you are walking. This is perfect for a high distraction situation where you need their focus at all times. If they are looking at you, they aren't looking at the cat running across the street. The beginning of teaching your dog how to react around new distractions.
-
They will also learn various directions of turns and speeds of walking so you can walk at a pace comfortable to you.
-
-
We will teach an automatic "sit" when walking is stopped.
-
This teaches the dog to pay attention to you and not go ahead of you, maintain position at your side, and not become distracted by smells or objects near them.
-
For example, if you take them to the pet store to pick up their dog food and you walk up to the counter with the bag, your dog should sit immediately when you get there and stop, and stay next to you instead of smelling the bones that they love to put in the dogs reach. You can complete your transaction without having to remind them to sit, or leave it, causing a lot less stress and making outings more enjoyable for the both of you.
-
-
I will also add an additional positioning command so that you can walk your dog on either side of you
-
This additional command is great when you need to get your dog on a different side of you when there are other people or dogs walking past you in a tight space and you are not sure how the other person or dog will react.
-
-
Basic manners will also be continued throughout the program.
-
No jumping on people, no biting or mouthing, etc.
-
-
All commands will also begin being "proofed."
-
This means we will add various distractions to make sure the commands are reliable in many different scenarios. It is very common for dogs to perform very well at home, but act like they never knew "sit" when they go to the pet store because of the new environment and distractions.
